Christopher Moeller is a writer and painter specializing in fully-painted graphic novels — long-form stories composed brushstroke by brushstroke, page after page.

His professional debut came in 1991, writing and painting Rocketman: King of the Rocketmen for Innovation Comics, followed by artwork and covers for Anne Rice’s Interview with the Vampire. At Dark Horse he began the Iron Empires saga with Faith Conquers; its successor, Sheva’s War, arrived in 1998 through DC’s Helix imprint. He painted cover runs for Batman: Shadow of the Bat and Vertigo’s Lucifer, along with James Bond and Star Wars covers — and in 2000, the landmark JLA: A League of One, followed by JLA Classified: Cold Steel in 2005. He returned to the Iron Empires in 2014 with Void, published through his own Forged Lord Comics.

In parallel, Moeller has painted for the gaming world: more than 250 illustrations for Magic: The Gathering, cards for the World of Warcraft TCG, covers for White Wolf’s Aberrant, and the packaging art for Axis & Allies Miniatures. His Iron Empires universe became the award-winning tabletop RPG Burning Empires in 2006. And since 2020 he has designed the games themselves — a line of tabletop wargames for Compass Games spanning the Napoleon’s Eagles series, Brothers at War, and the fantasy epic Burning Banners.
